After commenting that I rarely read fiction, I purposefully chose a novel from my “to be read” bookcase. This one was a gift – and I think I received it 2 or more years ago. Just started reading it on the weekend and it’s fantastic. Will write a wee review when I’ve finished, but if “Banana Rose” by Natalie Goldberg is my favorite hippie novel, this may be my favorite “revolutionary” novel documenting the very wild times of my youth. It follows two Barnard roommates – one a poor rural girl, one from a very wealthy socialite family. The wealthy girl becomes swept up in the political movement of the time and a very intriguing tale unfolds.
I’m about 2/3 done and already can say I highly recommend this very well-written, thought-filled novel about a turbulent era – one that formed me and my generation in many ways.
