21 years ago yesterday was not a great day for me. No matter what happened (not everything needs to be divulged in a public forum, after all!) it was one of those demarcation days – a turning point.
And while the after effects included so many huge, positive changes, the presentation event was sufficiently painful that it seems my whole body remembers on a cellular level. So each October 4th has felt somber to me.
Yesterday I finally got it.
What it’s about, in the here and now is resilience. Like all of us, I’ve taken hits in my life, some have been bigger than others. I see life as one big School for the Soul – and just like at school some classes are easy (English) and some are almost impossibly hard (Botany). The point is to get the lesson.
21 years later I think I got it – resilience.
Or as Little Feat say:
“I’ve been kicked by the wind
Robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in
but I’m still on my feet
and I’m still
(Lyrics by Lowell George)
